The SPLICE Fellowship Program is an opportunity for emerging performers and composers to engage with music that integrates live performance with electronics. The goal of this Program is to provide a unique avenue for electroacoustic music training, particularly for musicians new to the field. All Fellows will receive private coaching, automatic acceptance to SPLICE Institute 2026, and live performances. 

The Fellowship Program is open to all composers and performers (of any instrument) who are either:

  • Current students

  • Assistant Professors within their their first three years at their institution

  • Professors of any rank who are teaching music technology courses for the first time

  • Composers unaffiliated with an institution of higher education 

The SPLICE Fellowship Program will be led by Keith Kirchoff (President and founder of SPLICE Music and the SPLICE Ensemble pianist)

The SPLICE Fellowship Program is currently looking for hosts for the 2025-26 year. 

The Composition Fellows

Six composers will be accepted from a national call. Selected composers will work with Keith Kirchoff on either a new work for piano and electronics, or for piano, unspecified/open instrument, and electronics. 

The Composition Fellows will receive:

  • A workshop on commissioning works with Flannery Cunningham

  • A workshop on writing for piano

  • Coaching and master classes pertaining to the use of electronics

  • Assistance on electronic materials

  • Two performances of their new work

  • Automatic acceptance to SPLICE Institute 2026

Previous experience with electroacoustic music is not required. 

The Performance Fellows

Three performers (of any instrument) will be selected from each host institution. Selected performers will work with Keith Kirchoff on a performance of a new piece for piano, unspecified instrument, and electronics. The Performance Fellow will be tasked with running the electronics in the concert performance. 

The Performance Fellows will receive:

  • Musical rehearsals and coaching with Keith Kirchoff on a new piece

  • Coaching and workshops on tools for running and controlling electronics from the stage

  • A performance with Mr. Kirchoff on a new work

  • Automatic acceptance to SPLICE Institute 2026

Previous experience with electroacoustic music is not required.

 

SPLICE Fellowship Hosts

SPLICE Fellowship Hosts will select three performers from amongst their students and/or faculty (see eligibility above) to collaborate with Keith Kirchoff on a performance of new works. Mr. Kirchoff would be in residence for 3-4 days to rehearse with and coach the Performance Fellows on both the music and running electronics from stage, as well as to work with current composition and/or performance students.

Hosts of the SPLICE Fellowship Program will receive:

  • A lecture demonstration on writing for piano given to current composition students

  • Master classes to either composition or piano students

  • Coaching and rehearsals with the Performance Fellows

  • Advertising in all SPLICE Fellowship programs and announcements

  • A concert (with the Fellowship Performers) featuring the six new pieces written for the Fellowship program

Hosts would provide:

  • Rehearsal space with a grand piano and PA system

  • A performance venue with a grand piano and PA system

  • Dress rehearsal/sound check in the performance venue

  • A sound engineer to mix live sound during the concert and soundcheck

  • Mr. Kirchoff’s Artist Fee

    • Travel

    • Lodging

    • $700 

  • A live video recording of the final concert, to be made available to Mr. Kirchoff and all SPLICE Fellows.
